In recognition of the continued success and progress of talented designers who have participated in previous cycles of the EcoChic Design Award over its seven year history, as part of the EcoChic Design Award 2017 grand final week’s activities, Redress presented select alumni sustainable brands, demonstrating the competition’s broader impact.
Three Hong Kong brands - Artisan, ASTRA Tailoring and Classics Anew - from the growing pool of design talent exhibited their textile waste reducing brands at CENTRESTAGE between 6 – 9 September 2017.

About Angus Tsui
After winning the public vote for the EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2012 People’s Award, Angus Tsui launched his namesake sustainable womenswear and menswear brand in 2014, which is created using the zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction design techniques, and uses organic and recycled fabrics and sustainable printing. In July 2017 Angus co-founded ASTRA Tailoring, a brand offering bold, confident mens’ tailoring designed with a zero-waste approach, and created from up-cycled dead stock fabrics.
Award-winning Angus is collecting more recognitions; from picking up the EcoChic Design Award 2014/15 Alumni Prize, being handpicked to represent the future of fashion design at the Hong Kong Young Talent Alumni Fashion Show 2016, to his recent accolade of Bronze Awardee for the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2017. Extending his reach within the community, he is supported with studio space at the St James’ Settlement Jockey Club Up-cycling Centre where he also works with people with disabilities to produce up-cycled products. Angus has a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from Nottingham Trent University and a Higher Diploma in Fashion Design from Hong Kong Design Institute.
About David Lee
David Lee was a semi-finalist of the EcoChic Design Award 2011. Based in Hong Kong, he launched his menswear brand, Artisan, in 2017. David is proactive about minimising the impact of his brand’s production methods and aims to achieve zero-waste when designing his collections. His work has been recognised at numerous Hong Kong and international fashion design awards including the Hong Kong Young Designer Contest, the International Footwear Design competition, and the Mustang Denim Design competition. David graduated with first-class honours for both his Fashion Design degree from Hong Kong Design Institute and Coventry University.
About Janko Lam
Janko Lam won the EcoChic Design Award Hong Kong 2011 inaugural cycle. Soon after completing her winning prize of designing the first Recycled Collection for Esprit, she launched her brand Classics Anew in 2013, in which she up-cycles leftover denim and prints with a twist of modern Chinese heritage. Janko continues to forge her success in her shared retail space, Three Artisans, at PMQ in Hong Kong. She also regularly organises consumer workshops for both children and adults, to pass on traditional qipao craftsmanship skills.
Recently, Janko’s work was featured at the Hong Kong Young Talent Alumni Fashion Show 2016 to represent the future of fashion design. Janko has an Associate Degree in Fashion Design from Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC).
