In front of a hushed crowd of 550 from the fashion industry on 16th October 2024, five Chinese emerging brands brought to life their circular designs on the runway. It was the Redress Design Award returning to Shanghai Fashion Week for the first time in 12 years to spotlight the innovative, sustainable collections of select Chinese Alumni designers.
We are proud to announce the launch of our Redress Patrons Programme, an ongoing initiative designed to cultivate a network of industry leaders across Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region. This programme aims to secure diversity funding from prospective Patrons while providing influential figures with valuable insights into sustainable fashion practices.
Building on our goal to empower emerging fashion designers to create circular products, Redress is spearheading a new Designer Residency programme. This project supports a selection of Redress Alumni designers through collaborative projects that develop their skills and knowledge, whilst showcasing solutions for waste and providing valuable cross-cultural exposure.
Congratulations to Hong Kong’s Tiger Chung for winning the Redress Design Award 2024! The prize package includes a career-changing opportunity to join the Tommy Hilfiger team on a sustainable design project for retail, creating a broader impact for the industry and consumers. Plus, the First Prize winner also receives a development fund of HK50,000 (US$6,400) to propel their sustainable fashion career.
Our Get Redressed Month 2024 Impact Report is out now!
Our campaign message ‘Your Clothes, Our Planet’ invited Hong Kong consumers to rethink the relationship between themselves, clothing, and the environment, and discover more sustainable ways to embrace fashion in their daily lives. Activities included a citywide clothing drive, large-scale Sort-a-thon clothes sorting event, community Sip & Shop promotion, secondhand pop-up shop, educational talks with schools and companies, citywide MTR campaign, and our first photo exhibition.
Redress Alum Pei-Wen Jin was selected from a shortlist of 24 Redress Alumni to be part of an Artist-at-Sea mission last summer, embarking on a six-day scientific expedition focused on the pressing issue of microplastics. Working alongside other artists and marine scientists aboard the research vessel Falkor (too), Pei-Wen’s journey in the Pacific near the Panama Canal was part of the Ocean Rising initiative with Schmidt Ocean Institute and Nekton, which connects culture with the ocean.
Our popular secondhand pop-up shop is returning! Get ready to browse and buy from our huge selection of affordable, quality secondhand clothing and accessories for all genders and sizes starting from just HK$50. In addition to our special activities, shop the latest sustainable collections from Redress Alumni designers Janus Ha, Eric Wong, and Yu Wing Shan.
Get Redressed Month 2024 has begun! Throughout May, we invite you to rethink the relationship between your clothing and the environment, with a series of activities:
How does Hong Kong's upcoming Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Charging Scheme affect fashion?
While Redress works to end fashion waste, the MSW scheme aims to reduce waste in general by charging citizens for disposal to landfill, making it a last resort. According to government statistics, the recycling rate of waste textiles was only about 11% in 2022*.
Redress collaborated with local community members and small businesses on Lantau Island last month to produce the island’s first ‘Spring Closet Clearout’ event on beautiful Pui O Beach. With a neighbourly atmosphere, and plenty of lively swapping, selling, and shopping, the event was a success. Residents are already enthusiastically planning for the next one!
Our valued Redress Design Award prize sponsor Bloomsbury Publishing is offering an exclusive 30% discount for all fashion titles in their extensive repository of resources for fashion professionals, with books about everything from circular design strategies to sustainability trends over time and much more.
